Obsession part 5Part 5: True LovePepe wandered through the streets. "What do I do?" he asked himself. "Where can I go?" He was so absorbed in his thoughts that he wasn't paying attention to where he was going. He bumped into a man. "Excusez-moi," he said, moving around him. The man stopped him. Looking up, Pepe saw that he was a young Mexican-American with greasy black hair and a set of studs on his lower lip. He had a black bandana tied around his arm and a tattoo on his bicep that said "SMG." He had three other youths with him, all dressed similarly with similar black bandanas and tattoos. Pepe didn't know it, but these youths were members of a local gang called Santa Monica 13, whose activities included assault, robbery, auto theft, drug trafficking...and murder. "There's a fee for bumping into me, loco" the man said. "What eez set?" Pepe said, noticing that the other youths were moving to surround him. "Everything you got," the youth replied,

"Yeah, here she is." He held up a sign-in sheet. The cat's name was finally revealed; Harriet Kitty. According to the sign-in sheet, she'd come from a marina in Santa Monica. "She left last night," the marina owner said. "Kind of a weird chick; kept mostly to herself."The name of her boat was (what else could it be?) the Scent-imental, a mid-size houseboat. "Which way did she go?""She headed southwest," he replied."Okay, thank you," I said and called Chief Antony.
